Last Monday the San Francisco OPTX obliterated Berlin Allianz' hopes of playing in the final match of the 2008 World Final. A 27 - 14 defeat delivered a crushing blow to the European team's campaign and sent us back to our hotel rooms to pack for the long journey home.
This is the recap of the match.
DoA F: Livia «Liefje» Teernstra

A shot of Livia «Liefje» Teernstra from her match with Underground's «Eileen».

«Liefje» came up big against Stockholm a month ago, played well against «SarahLou» from Birmingham's Salvo and took down the undefeated Underground girl «Eileen» in the quarter final. Her great season would come to an end against 2007's first draft pick, and the world's best female gamer, Vanessa «Vanessa» Artega. The match would take place on crash club and «Vanessa» wasted no time going to work on «Liefje's» character Kokoro. Vicious combo's and counter-attacks sent pounded Teernstra in the opening rounds. Within minutes it looked as if «Vanessa» would completely outclass «Liefje» but she fought back valiantly and took her first round of the match. Unfortunately she could not string together more - despite some fantastic efforts that pushed the San Francisco star to bring her best game. In the end a 5 - 1 loss was chalked up on the big scoreboard.
«Liefje» was visably disappointed after the loss but proud team mates tried to console her regardless. In a short year she went from not having tried Dead or Alive to keep a positive record in her second season playing in the Championship Gaming Series.
FIFA: Rostyslav «Manyna» Nedoviz
Rostyslav «Manyna» Nedoviz' season record coming into the match was + 4 with two matches won 2 - 1 (vs «Istvan» and «Haroutig10») and one won by 2 - 0 (vs «Bazza»). San Francisco's «Stermy» was looking to end the Ukrainian star's undefeated CGS record and extend his team's lead.
«Manyna» would have none of it and wasted no time. He scored his first within 50 seconds and doubled his lead a minute later. Two quick goals is fairly rare in the competitive FIFA 2008 world but Nedoviz refused to sieze his relentless attacks and put in a third before «Stermy» pulled on back before half time.
The Italian turned American kept pressure on the Berlin player throughout the second half but «Manyna» held firmly onto his lead as the match died with a 3 - 1 score. It was extremely entertaining for the spectators and had CGS analyst and commentator Paul «Redeye» Chaloner go through the roof with excitement. «Manyna» had once again picked his team up on his shoulders with a commanding FIFA performance and is the only undefeated player left in the CGS.
Forza Motorsport 2:
Philippe «Yggdrasil» Vaillant, Erno «FinPro» Kuronen
The Forza racers were a hot commodity coming off their victory at the Individual World Final where they beat Carolina Core's «GEL» and «Phantom» in the final match. They would have their hands full with San Francisco's talented pair as they were handed the first two starting positions setting them up to be wrecked early on.
The players jockey'd for position throughout the race and slammed into each other on several occations. At one point things looked meek, not only for the Forza result, but for the entire match as San Francisco held on to a lead that would give them the 6 - 1 win. However, during the last lap things changed again and Berlin's «Yggdrasil» and «FinPro» could claim second and third. As they came off the scene one of their team mates exclaimed «nice save» and in reality their effort to pull back a 4 - 5 result kept the match alive going into the first half of Counter-Strike: Source with a three point lead for OPTX.
Counter-Strike: Source
David «olander» Olander-Persson, Robin «Fifflaren» Johansson, Quint «Blaze» Spierenburg, Milan «xertion» Veeger, Joacim «majk» Kroon
The Counter-Strike: Source team had absolutely nothing to lose and everything to win in this match up. They had yet to play to their potential, let alone win a match, in the `08 season thus setting them up to be the heroes of the semi-final if they could fire on all cylinders against the rising stock of the OPTX team.
It was widely agreed that de_inferno was a good map and after winning the cointoss Berlin could start on the defending side, which is usually dubbed the easier side. However, a good start that could build some momentum completely eluded the team as OPTX took the first two rounds - almost uncontested. That set the tone for the match and Berlin could not mount a credible comeback to bring the score back for the team. OPTX were sharper, more tactically astute and seemed hell bent on winning.
The hopes of a world final apperance died with the first half of CS: S and the Dead or Alive match that went live at the same time.
DoA M: Rudolf «The Tactical» Fischer
«The Tactical's» match with Chris «NinjaCW» Harris went live as three rounds of Counter-Strike: Source had been played out. It did not matter much as Rudolf Fischer had to be able to play to the limits of his potential if he was going to be able to help the team. It never looked as if he would be able to «find it» against the San Francisco player's Gen Fu.
Harris took round after round and the match evolved much like the «Vanessa» vs. «Liefje» encounter did earlier on in the semi-final. Fischer fought back but never looked threatening to «NinjaCW» despite winning one point and taking his opponent's health down to ten percent in another round. The OPTX exploded as Harris closed out the match with a resounding 5 - 1 result - one that basically put San Francisco in the 2008 World Final and left Berlin's dream of the Mountain Dew trophy dead in their tracks.
The final match result was a 27 to 14 blow out. Berlin Allianz extends their best wishes for San Francisco OPTX in the final match on Monday July 28th where they will face the Birmingham Salvo from England.
