2008 will be the first «full year» for the Berlin Allianz. That makes it all the more important to maintain a steady flow of print articles, TV-features and online items. Our biggest asset in this endeavour is the players themselves - each with their own unique story to tell.






As June rolled around the CGS 2008 Season is just weeks away. The team is preparing rigorously for the upcoming challenges in Los Angeles where they will face rival Stockholm Magnetik - and then the cream of the crop of the CGS teams. Most community sites change gears with their coverage and conduct scores of interviews with our players.

9. June: «bsl» and «olander» on «Esport Weekly»

Berlin Allianz General Manager «bsl» and the team's franchise player David «olander» Olander-Persson was interviewed by Esport journalist Stuart Saw during the draft in Birmingham. In this video feature the pair talk about the Championship Gaming Series and the experience of being a part of it.

1. June: MYM interview Livia «Liefje» Teernstra

International community site Meet Your Makers recently conducted an extensive interview with our Dead or Alive Female player Livia «Liefje» Teernstra. The interview was made as part of their coverage for the upcoming CGS season.

May sees the first CGS event of the season. The European Combine and Draft takes place in Birmingham between the 17th and 18th of the month. The event gives the team more pull with the media as interest is sparked around who stays on the team and who will not be redrafted for the 2008 season.

27. May: Fnatic interview Milan «xertion» Veeger

Milan «xertion» Veeger was overlooked at last year's draft. This time around he made it and was drafted to Berlin Allianz, being split up from his team mates in Fnatic. Their site decided to interview the Dutchman about this experience.

In another feature interview following the European Draft Swedish CS:S community site CSS Forumet talk to «bsl» about his choices and how the new CS:S team will work out with the inherent language barrier they have to overcome.

22. May: GM interviewed by Sourcebasen

Berlin Allianz GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan is a busy man after the CGS European Draft. In this interview he is asked to justify his choices at the draft for Swedish CS: Source community site Sourcebasen.

Norway's biggest gaming portal Catch Gamer did an interview with Berlin Allianz General Manager after the 2008 Draft. Jonas Alsaker Vikan talk about the draft and how the Norwegian team did in Birmingham.

The multinational gaming organization Meet Your Makers interviewed General Manager Jonas Alsaker Vikan about the second Draft and the upcoming CGS season as well as the different games that are chosen.

18. May: Rudolf «The Tactical» Fischer interviewed by Fragster

Fragster is Germany's second biggest esport media site. It was created in March 2008 to compete with Readmore. The site covered the European Draft and sat down with German DoA player Rudolf Fischer to do a long and informative interview.

15. May: Jonas Nordqvist interviewed

The Swedish CS: Source player Jonas Nordqvist was interviewed by the German site eFever.de in the week leading up to the European Draft 2008. Nordqvist talk greatly about his AWP play - the Swede has been considered one of the best in Europe with the sniper rifle for some time.

The Swedish CS: Source site CSSForumet.se interviewed Berlin GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan about the upcoming CGS Combine and Draft event. Vikan answer's questions about the CGS and the CS:S team.

April is the month leading up to the European Combine and Draft event - and media interest sparked because of it. The team was featured in several big newspapers, including Finland's biggest print paper and a quarterly Diabetes magazine distributed in four countries.

30. April: «FinPro» in Finland's biggest newspaper

Erno «FinPro» Kuronen was featured in the Friday special edition of Finland's biggest newspaper «Helsinki». The newspaper is distributed to roughly 1 000 000 people in Finland. Kuronen talk about Berlin Allianz under the headline «Million Dollar Game». The article was pushed back several times to allow for additional space to cover Kuronen's story.

25. April: A «bsl» portrait

Norway's oldest newspaper, Adresseavisen, did a portrait interview with Berlin GM Jonas Vikan. The interview revolves around the role as General Manager and what it took to get there. It was published on the internet paper (300 000 unique visitors per week) and in a two page spread on paper, 250 000 readers every day.

14. April: «olander» fights for diabetics

Acencia is the diabetic's magazine in Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. It's first 2008 edition featured two pages on David Olander-Persson and his quest to use his status as a professional gamer to help diabetics and diabetids research. The article was published in all four editions, and consequently in four languages.

The first weekend of the month saw a Berlin Allianz promotional event in Trondheim, Norway. That event yielded several news items online in the gaming media as well as some mentioning in mainstream newspapers in Norway. Another event in Finland also gave the team some coverage with mainstream outlets.

7. March: GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan at the Norwegian Game «Oscar's»

Norway's biggest TV channel, NRK, produced and broadcasted the show called «The Golden Joystick». Vikan announced the best Online title - fast forward to 01:02 and watch the song finish to see it.

6. March: ESBR interviews GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan

ESBR conducted an interview with Berlin GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan. The site is the biggest community site in Brazil and Vikan played professionally there in 2003. The interview takes up topic from a long career in electronic sports.

1. March: - Not just for boys

The oldest newspaper in Norway, Adresseavisen, with a feature on «Berlin girl» Livia Teernstra as she participated at the «Beat a pro» event in Trondheim, Norway during the Kosmorama film festival. Livia talk about how it is to be a girl gamer.

The month of Febuary represented several challenges - while the stories within the team are strong; contracted players living their dream - the media prefer to report on recent events. Febuary is nomans land in this sense as the players are working extremely hard to improve their skills to be re-drafted. The problem is that they are doing that at home, a place where they are not so visible to the crowds. Nonetheless there was some first class mentioning, both in prominent parts of the online media as well as the more coveted mainstream press.

29. Febuary: Adresseavisen details Berlin Allianz promotional event

Adresseavisen with a story on Berlin Allianz' promotional event at the Kosmorama film festival in Trondheim, Norway. The article introduces Livia Teernstra as well as the «Beat a pro» event.

27. Febuary: SK Gaming with an unusual interview of Jonas Alsaker Vikan

SK Gaming asked Berlin GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan to define what each letter of the alphabet means to him in an esport context. SK Gaming is one of the biggest community sites in the esport world.

24. Febuary: Catch Gamer interview with «olander» and «Liefje»

Berlin Allianz will be doing promotion at Kosmorama International Film festival in Trondheim, Norway. The country's biggest gaming portal interviewed players «olander» and «Liefje» about the event.

20. Febuary: Rudolf «The Tactical» Fischer featured by WCG

Last year Rudolf Fischer won the gold medal at the European Cyber Games. In this interview he discusses how he would be proud to defend his medal at this years event in Hannover in March.

15. Febuary: Jonas Alsaker Vikan interviewed on Norwegian Radio

Berlin Allianz General Manager recently participated in a Norwegian radioshow on the nationwide channel NRK 1. The subject of the interview was how the language used in gaming and esports trancends into the mainstream tounge.

15. Febuary: Erno «FinPro» Kuronen featured in Hämeen Sanomat

Berlin Allianz racer Erno «FinPro» Kuronen has been featured by several mainstream newspapers in Finland. The title of this feature story fits him: Erno accelerates from the couch.

13. Febuary: Livia «Liefje» Teernstra featured by NZ website Stackd

New Zealand native and DoA female player Livia «Liefje» Teernstra was interviewed by her country's biggest gaming site Stackd. With this interview she might inspire NZ gamers to pursue their dreams like she has done.

CS: Source player David Olander-Persson was interviewed by the Swedish site Sourcebasen. Persson talk about Berlin Allianz' online match against the French team Creative.

January is the CGS off season.

There are no events where the players participate thus making it all the more hard to get the attention of media outlets. However the team is still hot on the heels off the CGS World Final, the 3.-4th place finish and the 70 000 dollars won. The world final campaign makes a good story to tell friends, family and general audiences as well.

24. January: Berlin DoA male and female featured by The CGS League page

Rudolf «The Tactical» Fischer and Livia «Liefje» Teernstra's strong performances at the World Final in December is the subject of this feature article. They reveal how they prepared themselves and discuss how that prepartion helped them on stage.

21. January: PGR racer Philippe «Yggdrasil» Vaillant interviewed by Esport France

The biggest esport site in France interviewed «Yggdrasil» about the World Final. Vaillant answers questions about the stay in Los Angeles and gives his thoughts on his future as a professional gamer.

Erno «Finpro» Kuronen and Philippe «Yggdrasil» Vaillant was the subject of a big feature article on The CGS League page. They discuss their performance at the CGS World Final.

20. January: Robin «Fifflaren» Johansson featured by Team Excello

Team Excello is Portugal's biggest esport organisation. They interviewed Robin «Fifflaren» Johansson for their site about the CGS and how is to live the progaming dream.

14. January: Erno «FinPro» Kuronen featured in Iltalehti

Berlin PGR3 player Erno «FinPro» Kuronen was featured in Finland's third biggest print newspaper, «Iltalehti». Kuronen explains how making a living off games has been his dream. He is also asked about the CGS World Final in December where Berlin finished 3-4th.

10. January: Erno «Finpro» Kuronen appear on Finnish TV channels YLE1 and YLE2

Erno Kuronen welcome a TV crew into his home in Riihimäki. He is interviewed about his status as a contracted CGS player and how that was a dream that came through for him. The segment was aired with nationwide distribution on the channel YL1 with two re-runs.

7. January: Rudolf «The Tactical» Fischer featured in Augsburger Allgemeine

Augsburger Allgemeine is one of Bavaria's biggest newspaper with a daily distribution of over 350 000. Rudolf Fischer was featured in a story about his status as a contracted CGS player and about the team Berlin Allianz.

A vital part of a successful gaming team is a strong relationship with the media. This includes content done on any of the team's members in any channel, whether it is done on a small community website or in the largest international newspaper in the world.

We try and keep tabs of our media apperances and this feature will be continually updated and segmented monthly as the professionals and the GM of the Berlin Allianz attract more and more attention from news outlets.






December is the month of the first CGS World Final. This historic event where 1 million dollars will be distributed among the 11 finest teams from around the world attracts the attention of wide-spread media outlets from around the globe. They descend on Los Angeles and the Sony Stage where this amazing event is played out on Live TV. These are links to the media coverage enjoyed by the Berlin Allianz.

20. December: Robin «Fifflaren» Johansson on the front page of Värmlands Folkblad

Berlin CS:S player Robin «Fifflaren» Johansson was featured on the front page of mainstream Swedish newspaper Värmlands Folkblad. The title of the article is «Robin play games for a living» and the young Swede explains the concept of the Championship Gaming Series.

«Epileptic Gaming» featuring Marcus «djWHEAT» Graham is perhaps the most popular gaming-releated show online. Their 142nd episode featured Berlin Allianz' Livia «Liefje» Teernstra. She talked on camera for forty minutes about professional gaming and her role at the CGS World Final.

1. December: Rostyslav «Manya» Nedoviz featured by The CGS

Rostyslav «Manya» Nedoviz' journey towards a professional contract with Berlin Allianz and The Championship Gaming Series was a long one. The month of November saw a variety of coverage in several media channels for the Berlin team.

In addition to online gaming sites there were mainstream newspaper coverage in several Scandinavian countries as well as a TV segment for the team's only girl. Livia «Liefje» Teernstra was featured on a Swedish nation-wide channel for the «Culture News» show, a TV crew followed her during one of her practice sessions and interviewed her about her life as a professional gamer.

30. November: GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan on Norwegian Web-TV

Adresseavisen is Norway's oldest newspaper. In 2007 they are obviously modernized with their own Web-TV channel and GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan did a videoblog showing life in Los Angeles. There is also illustrative footage from the Berlin victory at the European Championships earlier in the year.

24. November: Ted «haunted» Svensson featured in mainstrean newspaper «Skånskan.se»

«Skånskan.se» wrote an article about Berlin Allianz CS:S player Ted «haunted» Svensson. The 21 year old Swede confess to practicing 25 hours a week to be ready for the CGS World Final in December.

In October things cool down as the team travel home to their respective countries to begin preparing for the World Championships, scheduled for mid-December in Los Angeles, California.

Several of the players are still highlighted in some very different and unusual contexts; Source-player «Olander» even has to explain his taste in music for a popular Swedish esport site while another topic this month is how the team feels about the redemption gained after winning the European Championships. All the while «Olander», an able student at a Technical University, is interviewed by the University paper explaining the combination of professional gaming and academical endeavors to his peers. In Finland, Erno Kuronen, gain traction with some mainstream newspapers.

Sourcejunky interview David «Olander» Olander-Persson. The article is dubbed «The other side of the story» and deals with how Persson feels after all the criticism Berlin Allianz got after they were drafted over fan favorites Fnatic.

Berlin Counter-Strike: Source player David «Olander» Olander-Persson attends Blekinge University College. Following his addition to Berlin Allianz the College highlighted him on their homepage.

September was a very busy month for Berlin Allianz.

The team was born during a hectic week in Birmingham, England where the European draft took place. Several hundred gamers from all over the continent displayed their skills in the different games in hope of attaining the dream of being drafted to one of the two teams and getting a professional contract with the Championship Gaming Series.

Conroversy struck as Berlin GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan made some unusual choices that attracted criticism from onlookers and gaming media. In the end redemption was obtained for the Berlin team as they could successfully defeat Stockholm Magnetik to be crowned the first ever CGS European Champions.

This is the bulk of the media attention the team recieved throughout the month.
