2008 will be the first «full year» for the
Berlin Allianz. That makes it all the more important to maintain a steady flow of print articles, TV-features and online items. Our biggest asset in this endeavour is the players themselves - each with their own unique story to tell.
As June rolled around the CGS 2008 Season is just weeks away. The team is preparing rigorously for the upcoming challenges in Los Angeles where they will face rival
Stockholm Magnetik - and then the cream of the crop of the CGS teams. Most community sites change gears with their coverage and conduct scores of interviews with our players.
Berlin Allianz General Manager «bsl» and the team's franchise player David «olander» Olander-Persson was interviewed by Esport journalist Stuart Saw during the draft in Birmingham. In this video feature the pair talk about the Championship Gaming Series and the experience of being a part of it.

Meet Your Makers recently conducted an extensive interview with our Dead or Alive Female player Livia «Liefje» Teernstra. The interview was made as part of their coverage for the upcoming CGS season.

May sees the first CGS event of the season. The European Combine and Draft takes place in Birmingham between the 17th and 18th of the month. The event gives the team more pull with the media as interest is sparked around who stays on the team and who will not be redrafted for the 2008 season.
Milan «xertion» Veeger was overlooked at last year's draft. This time around he made it and was drafted to Berlin Allianz, being split up from his team mates in Fnatic. Their site decided to interview the Dutchman about this experience.

April is the month leading up to the European Combine and Draft event - and media interest sparked because of it. The team was featured in several big newspapers, including Finland's biggest print paper and a quarterly Diabetes magazine distributed in four countries.
Erno «FinPro» Kuronen was featured in the Friday special edition of Finland's biggest newspaper «Helsinki». The newspaper is distributed to roughly 1 000 000 people in Finland. Kuronen talk about Berlin Allianz under the headline «Million Dollar Game». The article was pushed back several times to allow for additional space to cover Kuronen's story.

Norway's oldest newspaper,
Adresseavisen, did a portrait interview with Berlin GM Jonas Vikan. The interview revolves around the role as General Manager and what it took to get there. It was published on the internet paper (300 000 unique visitors per week) and in a two page spread on paper, 250 000 readers every day.

Acencia is the diabetic's magazine in Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. It's first 2008 edition featured two pages on David Olander-Persson and his quest to use his status as a professional gamer to help diabetics and diabetids research. The article was published in all four editions, and consequently in four languages.

The first weekend of the month saw a Berlin Allianz promotional event in Trondheim, Norway. That event yielded several news items online in the gaming media as well as some mentioning in mainstream newspapers in Norway. Another event in Finland also gave the team some coverage with mainstream outlets.
Norway's biggest TV channel,
NRK, produced and broadcasted the show called «The Golden Joystick». Vikan announced the best Online title - fast forward to 01:02 and watch the song finish to see it.

6. March:
ESBR interviews GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan
ESBR conducted an interview with Berlin GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan. The site is the biggest community site in Brazil and Vikan played professionally there in 2003. The interview takes up topic from a long career in electronic sports.

The month of Febuary represented several challenges - while the stories within the team are strong; contracted players living their dream - the media prefer to report on recent events. Febuary is nomans land in this sense as the players are working extremely hard to improve their skills to be re-drafted. The problem is that they are doing that at home, a place where they are not so visible to the crowds. Nonetheless there was some first class mentioning, both in prominent parts of the online media as well as the more coveted mainstream press.

15. Febuary: Jonas Alsaker Vikan interviewed on Norwegian Radio

January is the CGS off season.
There are no events where the players participate thus making it all the more hard to get the attention of media outlets. However the team is still hot on the heels off the CGS World Final, the 3.-4th place finish and the 70 000 dollars won. The world final campaign makes a good story to tell friends, family and general audiences as well.

Berlin PGR3 player Erno «FinPro» Kuronen was featured in Finland's third biggest print newspaper, «Iltalehti». Kuronen explains how making a living off games has been his dream. He is also asked about the CGS World Final in December where Berlin finished 3-4th.

A vital part of a successful gaming team is a strong relationship with the media. This includes content done on any of the team's members in any channel, whether it is done on a small community website or in the largest international newspaper in the world.
We try and keep tabs of our media apperances and this feature will be continually updated and segmented monthly as the professionals and the GM of the Berlin Allianz attract more and more attention from news outlets.
December is the month of the first CGS World Final. This historic event where 1 million dollars will be distributed among the 11 finest teams from around the world attracts the attention of wide-spread media outlets from around the globe. They descend on Los Angeles and the Sony Stage where this amazing event is played out on Live TV. These are links to the media coverage enjoyed by the Berlin Allianz.
Berlin CS:S player Robin «Fifflaren» Johansson was featured on the front page of mainstream Swedish newspaper Värmlands Folkblad. The title of the article is

The month of November saw a variety of coverage in several media channels for the Berlin team.
In addition to online gaming sites there were mainstream newspaper coverage in several Scandinavian countries as well as a TV segment for the team's only girl. Livia «Liefje» Teernstra was featured on a Swedish nation-wide channel for the «Culture News» show, a TV crew followed her during one of her practice sessions and interviewed her about her life as a professional gamer.
Adresseavisen is Norway's oldest newspaper. In 2007 they are obviously modernized with their own Web-TV channel and GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan
did a videoblog showing life in Los Angeles. There is also illustrative footage from the Berlin victory at the European Championships earlier in the year.

In October things cool down as the team travel home to their respective countries to begin preparing for the World Championships, scheduled for mid-December in Los Angeles, California.
Several of the players are still highlighted in some very different and unusual contexts; Source-player «Olander» even has to explain his taste in music for a popular Swedish esport site while another topic this month is how the team feels about the redemption gained after winning the European Championships. All the while «Olander», an able student at a Technical University, is interviewed by the University paper explaining the combination of professional gaming and academical endeavors to his peers. In Finland, Erno Kuronen, gain traction with some mainstream newspapers.

September was a very busy month for Berlin Allianz.
The team was born during a hectic week in Birmingham, England where the European draft took place. Several hundred gamers from all over the continent displayed their skills in the different games in hope of attaining the dream of being drafted to one of the two teams and getting a professional contract with the Championship Gaming Series.
Conroversy struck as Berlin GM Jonas Alsaker Vikan made some unusual choices that attracted criticism from onlookers and gaming media. In the end redemption was obtained for the Berlin team as they could successfully defeat
Stockholm Magnetik to be crowned the first ever CGS European Champions.
This is the bulk of the media attention the team recieved throughout the month.
