The esport award is a yearly award ceremony held at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. The show is supported by the European organization ESL.
The awards honor gamers and people working in the vicinity of the world-wide esports community. There are categories for player of the year, journalist of the year, team of the year and many more. This year the category for «console player of the year» is introduced and TWO Berliner made the cut to be nominated for the first ever award.
The Nominees
Rudolph «The Tactical» Fischer (Dead or Alive 4)
Philippe «Yggdrasil» Vaillant (PGR4)
Wouter «Handewasser» van Someren (PGR4)
Tom «OGRE2» Ryan (Halo 3)
Dave «Walshy» Walsh (Halo 3)
A tactical nomination

Rudolf «The Tactical» Fischer has been a respected Dead or Alive titan in Europe for years.
His previous accolades include a European Championship and consequently he was a shoe in for a spot on the Berlin Allianz at the first European CGS Draft in 2007.
Fischer is nominated for console player of the year for his results in 2007 which included a 5 - 2 victory over Stockholm Magnetik's «Neji» to secure the European trophy for Allianz and a positive record at the World Final where he took down top ranked Ryan «Offbeat Ninja» Ward in his final apperance.
«The Tactical» is currently preparing to play San Francisco OPTX' «NinjaCW» in Monday's semi final match but took some time out to comment on his nomination. Fischer said he is proud to be named for the award.
- It makes me feel great, because there are a lot of amazing players in different console games. I feel honored to be one of this 5 nominated players.
Nominated for the «wrong» game

Philippe «Yggdrasil» Vaillant has been considered one of the best racers in Europe for several years. His first year in the Championship Gaming Series was not the best one though as he could not play to his potential. He bounced back at the European Cyber Games in March though where he actually won his Project Gotham Racing 4 race to win the final and capture the gold medal.
However, as chance would have it a very controversial decision by the referees forced him to replay the final race and this time he lost to only take home the silver. Vaillant was not deterred though and went into rigorous Forca Motorsport 2 preparation for the 2008 CGS season.
Thus far he has been on a tear and he could win the World Individual Final with his partner «FinPro». «Yggdrasil» thinks it is about time the awards also highlights the console players. He said in a statement to
the Allianz website that the nomination means a great deal to him:
- Actually, being nominated for the «console player of the year» does mean a lot, because it obviously means you are among those players who have succeeded the most throughout a year. It is a big achievement for me, and I find it really cool that those awards even expand to the consoles.
