About the author
Jonas Alsaker Vikan is the General Manager of Berlin Allianz. He led the team to a European championship and a third to fourth placing at the first CGS World Final. The twenty six year old Norwegian is also a journalist.
14. April, Trondheim, Norway
Last year we launched - or announced our Never Alone - Nie Alleine initiative as the first CGS professional team. At first we used it to interact with you, our dear fans and followers, through a contest for what to call it. A signed Berlin-shirt was handed out to the winner and a period of quiet followed until the World Finals rolled around.
Throughout 2008 we intend to build off this added team identity and what better to kick that off than a two page spread in a magazine distributed in four languages and four countries?
Playing positive
Gamers often come across as stand offish, immature and even blatantly immature - even with the quote / end quote professionals this has been a problem that has tainted the sport and slowed its progress down. That always had me bewildered - because even from a selfish point of view everybody wants it to grow - right?
It has seemed that the simple fact has eluded many for a long time. David Olander-Persson has never had problems understanding that the best way to promote a sport he loves is by handling himself in a professional manner that other people can relate and look up to. He has been engaged with our Nie Alleine - Never Alone initiative from its conception - which he in fact inspired.
«Olander's» grandparents are diabetics. That cause is something he feels very strongly about and he has given money from gaming lessons away to a diabetes charity in the past. Over the course of 2008 all of Berlin Allianz will do so and select a suitable organization in Germany to recieve the limited funds the players can deliver.
To give this the attention it truly deserves in the gaming community we are proud to show off this two page magazine spread done on David Olander-Persson. He was recently featured in Ascencia, an official diabetes magazine distributed in four languages throughout Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. David talk about his gaming career and the CGS in the interview. The story has the most positive spin I have personally seen media do on gaming but unfortunatly it is unavailable to those who are not fluent in the Nordic languages.
